2. Who is required to complete an Austin Energy Audit?
a. Any City of Austin resident receiving power from Austin Energy attempting to buy/sell a home that is ten years or older.
b. Commercial and Multi-Family must complete Austin Energy Audits within the next two years.
3. When does the ordinance take effect?
The ordinance takes effect June 1, 2009 for residences. Multi-family dwellings and commercial real estate must have an Energy Audit completed by June 1, 2011.
4. Why did Austin Energy pass this ordinance requiring Energy Audits?
The Energy Efficiency Upgrade (EEU) Ordinance was approved by the Austin City Council with stakeholders representing multiple segments of the Austin community. Their task was to achieve environmental carbon targets, encourage private sector investment in energy efficiency improvements, reduce peak demand consumption, make housing more affordable through energy efficiency all while ensuring minimal disruption to Austin's real estate markets.
